Young Athletes Overuse Their Bodies and Strike Out Too Early PDF Print E-mail

Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon & Sports Medicine Specialist Raphael S. F. Longobardi, MD, supports the AOSSM STOP Sports Injuries Campaign

For Immediate Release – June 1, 2010 (Hackensack, NJ) – Dr. Raphael S. F. Longobardi of University Orthopaedic Center, PA, has joined forces with the American Orthopaedic Society of  Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and other healthcare organizations to help launch the STOP (Sports Trauma and Overuse Prevention) Sports Injuries Campaign.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), high school athletes alone account for an estimated two million injuries, 500,000 doctor visits and 30,000 hospitalizations each year due to sports.   More than half of all sports injuries in children are preventable.
